Manhattan Moments: 48 Hours in New York City

Manhattan Cityscape

The moment I crossed into Manhattan last summer, something felt different. This was not my first time in New York City, but there was something new in the atmosphere - something breathtaking, unique, and enchanting. I vividly remember looking up at the towering buildings and seeing the endless, bustling streets that make up this remarkable city.

48 hour - that was how much time we had to explore. Come along as I share about the unforgettable Manhattan moments I experienced during my time in New York City, from strolling through Central Park to watching my very first Broadway performance and discovering so much of what Manhattan has to offer.

Streets of New York City

We arrived in the big city early in the evening. As the sun reflected off the tall buildings, a wave of excitement and reality washed over me. Although I had been to this amazing place before, there was something special and sweet about being here as an adult creating our own itinerary and exploring the bustling streets.

We checked into our hotel room, which was so cozy and had an amazing view. Then we quickly started our exploration of the city. We would get this evening, one full day, and then a lovely morning before heading back home, so we had to make the most of every moment.

Evening in Bryant Park

But of course, the first thing on our list was food! We stopped at a taco spot to grab a snack before walking around, and then soon found ourselves at Bryant Park. It was nice seeing so many people enjoying the outdoors amid the hustle and bustle of the city.

We looked around for a little bit then trekked down the countless city streets toward Grand Central Terminal. Soon we made it to our destination located in Union Square Park…the largest Barnes and Noble in the world!

As book lovers, one of our first stops in NYC had to be the four-story Barnes. This was such a cool experience and is definitely a place you should visit during your time in the city even if you are not an avid reader.

After browsing for awhile we landed back on the streets of New York. Now it was dark, and honestly one of the most iconic times of the day in the city. People were out late, just like us, strolling through Times Square and the surrounding area. Taking in the dazzling city lights and the ambiance of NYC was an unforgettable experience.

Now it was time to find a place to eat a late dinner, because it was New York City it wasn’t too hard to find somewhere that was open past 10 at night.

After enjoying some delicious barbecue, walked back to our hotel, and wound down for the night. I gazed out the window admiring the lively city lights and the forrest of towering buildings from the comfort of my bed. It was a sight to see.

Now opening my eyes, the alarm for 5 am goes off. The dark, illuminated view from my bed has transformed into a gentle stream of morning light with slight hues of light blue and pink. This is the day we had been waiting for, one that starts with an early morning adventure to the Brooklyn Bridge and ends with an electrifying Broadway performance with so many wonderful and lovely moments in between.

I get out the bed and get ready for the day. We hopped on the subway to City Hall Park and trek up to see the sun had already risen on the Brooklyn Bridge. Although we got up so early, we made it to the bridge once the sun had already awakened, but nonetheless the view was breathtaking. Golden sunlight shimmered across the water creating a beautiful, glowing path that stretched into the distance. Its warm light shone on us with radiance and filled my heart with so much joy.

Once we observed the sun and strolled slightly along the bridge, we walked back and headed towards breakfast.

Liberty Bagels…. Liberty Bagels. Just remember that name, and put this bagel restaurant on your list immediately for your next visit to Manhattan. This place absolutely redifined what a wonderful bagel is to me (I am not exaggerating at all, lol). These bagels absolutely blew my mind.

When you first walk into the store, you are greeted with a beautiful array of bagels. From everything bagels, cinnamon raisin, plain, to their famous rainbow bagels, you could tell from just viewing them that they were going to be lifechanging. I got the bacon, egg, and cheese with a plain bagel, and it was absolutely delicious!

After our amazing breakfast, we took the subway to one of my favorite places in Manhattan…Central Park.

Central Park is a beautiful and sprawling park filled with winding trails, gorgeous lakes, and lush greenery. It is also home to countless trees and charming bridges, making it an amazing place to wander around.

This happened to be one of the hottest days in New York City last summer, so the shade from the trees was a welcomed escape while exploring a small portion of the park.

Soon it was time to head back toward Bryant Park where the New York Public Library stands, but before we did though, we made a quick stop to Blank Street Coffee where I finally tried the Iced Daydream Latte I had heard so much about. It was alright, but not quite worth the hype to me.

Beautiful Bridge in Central Park

We hopped on the subway to The New York Public Library, and was immediately amazed by how beautiful the building was. The white marble walls with the brown accents from ceiling to doors were absolutely stunning. And as we made our way through the library, we were greeted by gorgeous ceiling paintings framed in gold.

The ceilings were so intricate and beautiful. There was one area where photography and videography were not allowed, so this was the place we found a couple seats and decided to sit and read for a few minutes simply soaking in the moment.

I pulled out the book I had purchased from Barnes & Noble the night before and started reading it. I even made a note in my book that I began reading it in the NYC Public Library. It is one of those small but meaningful moments you show and tell to your future kids one day.

Now it was time to enjoy some lunch, so we made our way to Chelsea Market, a bustling food hall filled with incredible dining options. I decided to grab lunch from Very Fresh Noodles, a Chinese noodle shop where they literally make the noodles fresh in front of you. This meal was one of my absolute favorite meals of the entire trip! The noodles were so soft and fresh, and the flavors were phenomenal. The spice level was excellent and was just the right amount of heat that allowed the flavors to still shine through.

After we grabbed lunch, the hours flew by and we soon found ourselves back at our hotel resting before getting ready for the very event we had planned this entire trip around: a broadway musical!

This would be my very first time experiencing a broadway show and I was so ecstatic! We got ready jamming out to music and took the elvator down to start our short walk to Broadway.

Majestic Theatre in Broadway

Broadway was such a special and unique experience. Seeing a street lined with theaters showing various shows was a scene straight out of a movie. We were originally supposed to see a different performance than the one we ended up watching, but it was announced at the last minute that the lead performer was not going to be there, so we quite literally decided to go across the street and bought tickets toa musical neither of us knew much about. But that made it the more exciting!

Sunset Blvd, a musical that explores the dark side of Hollywood, was what we decided to experience. With the dramatic red and black screens displaying the mystery of Sunset Blvd, I truly did not know what I was getting into.

But nonetheless we walked into the theatre, found our seats, and waited for the performance that would soon have us speechless.

This musical absolutley surprised me in the best way possible. Even though there was no elaborate props or vibrant colors throughout the story, the performances, special effects, and other staging added to the storytelling in a way that left a significant impression on me.

This performance completely captivated me, and soon after we would be listening to the soundtrack of the musical on our journey home.

Overall this musical was a 10/10 experience. From the performances to the production, everything exceeded my expectations. And at the end, we even got to see some of the cast members once they left the theatre, which made the night even more memorable.

Me Getting Ready to Grab Pizza at 1am

A couple of hours after the performace, it was time to get a little midnight snack. And that meant walking the streets of New York at 1 am to grab a slice of pizza! So that is exactly what we did.

Walking through a city at night is definitely one of my favorite things to do whenever I’m exploring somewhere new. There is just something so atmospheric about strolling the streets of a city after dark while the streetlights glow and much of the city has fallen asleep. There is this sense of wonder and carefree adventure that lingers as you explore and take in a city from this unique perspective.

Overall, it was a quick trip to grab the pizza. I ate my slice on the way back to our hotel. I definitely recommend getting a slice of New York pizza at least once during your trip. It is one of those seemingly small moments that carries such a richness and nostalgia.

View of Manhattan From Roosevelt Island

Good morning, New York City! This morning marked the end of our 48-hour adventure of Manhattan. We got up early once again and found ourselves back on the subway, making our way to Roosevelt Island.

This was the only time we left Manhattan during our trip. We road the Roosevelt Island Tram overlooking the city and walked briefly around Roosevelt Island. There wasn’t a whole lot to see, but it was nice to enjoy a slow morning wandering around and taking pictures here.

Before long, we were riding the tram back watching the tall buildings grow closer and closer. It was so cool being able to see people, vehicles, and other things from this perspective. I would definitely recommend doing this ride because not only was it affordable, but it’s also a fantastic way to take aerial photos of the city.

Morning in Manhattan From Central Park

One of the last and most memorable stops of the trip was returning to Central Park. This time we explored a different area that was surrounded by so much lush greenery and serene nature.

There were two golden retrievers chasing each other, people strolling along the pathways, and others like us just taking in the park in its quiet splendor.

As we wandered through Central Park there were so many beautiful scenes to capture. One of my favorites was a charming bridge framed with looming trees and abundant shrubs. Whenever I look at this image I feel as if I have stepped into a fairy tale or the countryside of a beautiful village.

I am so excited for the next time I visit New York City, so I can further explore this incredible park again, along with the other boroughs especially Brooklyn. I also have not seen the Statue of Liberty up close yet, so I am also excited to visit that one day soon as well.

After our walk through the park, our final stop was the Book Club Bar in Manhattan. This bookstore was such a vibe. It was mellow, quaint, and was filled with an excellent sellection of books inside. We were not here too long, but I did end up finding a signed copy of a book that I had wanted so I was definitely happy about that.

Overall, my 48 hours in Manhattan were so special. From strolling on the streets of New York City, enjoying amazing food, to watching my very first Broadway show, this trip was so full and fun. I am already so excited to return and explore more of New York City!
