Granada, Spain: The City That Captivated My Soul
Cityscape of Alhambra in Granada, Spain
May 24th, 2024, remains one of the most memorable days of my life.
I was on a study abroad trip going through multiple cities in Spain and Morocco, (this marked my very first time visiting both Europe and Africa) and it was absolutely lovely.
During this trip, one of my favorite days that still lives rent-free in my mind was the day we spent in Granada Spain.
From exploring luxurious gardens, sprawling hilltop palaces, and alluring reflection pools of the Alhambra to strolling through Centro Sagrario’s diverse streets filled with charming shops, decadent restaurants, and gorgous nature.
This beautiful city in Andalusia, southern Spain, captivated my soul, and I am excited to share the wonderful places I experienced while in Granada.
Palace and Fortress in Alhambra, Granada
On the 24th, we got up early in the morning and set out for our tour of the Alhambra. The weather was beautiful, the sun was out, and it was the most gorgeous day.
We ventured around Palacios Nazaries, an enchanting royal palace and courtyard complex filled with history, art, and an abundance of natural beauty.
We admired breathtaking reflection pools and intricate architecture as we explored this remarkable part of Alhambra. The beauty of the lush green trees, flowing fountains, and vibrant flowers absolutely spoke to my heart.
If you are visiting Spain and want to experience a city immersed in authentic beauty, Granada should absolutely be on your list.
Enchanting Garden Fountain and Pool
After a wonderful morning walking through Alhambra’s stunning courtyards, palaces, and gardens, we made our way to Centro Sagrario.
This area serves as Granada’s city center, featuring exspansive plazas and streets lined with local restaurants, unique shops, and other historic landmarks.
This was our second time visiting Centro Sagrario - we had explored it the day before), and this time we had the opportunity to slow down, settle in, and wander at our own pace.
A Sunlit Street in Centro Sagrario
The time we spent strolling through this lively, historic city center was amazing. This is definitely a place worth visiting while in Granada that should be visited and explored. From the culture to the food, Centro Sagrario is another part of the city that captivated my soul.
A few friends and I went to a delicious restaurant, where we tried seafood paella for the very first time. And oh my goodness - it was the best meal I ate during the entire trip through Spain to Morocco. The flavors of the dish were excellent and it was a perfect portion size to share with two or three people.
After lunch, we stopped next door to this ice cream shop which was just as excellent as well. I vividly remember ordering a scoop of coffee and a scoop of vanilla, and the ice cream was incredibly rich and decadent. Funny enough, the vanilla ice cream tasted like eggnog to me - but in the best way possible.

After our morning of exploring through Alhambra’s beautiful landscapes and architecture, and a stroll through Centro Sagrario’s historical streets while enjoying some of the best local food, we made our way back to our hotel.
We relaxed by the pool for hours talking and taking in the stunning cityscape from the rooftop. It was absolute bliss - a moment I will never forget.
There was something special about having a full and balanced day, spending the morning discovering new and remarkable places to slowing down in the evening and sitting by the pool admiring the city for hours talking about life with people that I had not known before this trip.

This day in Granada, Spain, truly captivated my soul. It gave me lasting memories that I will always cherish, beautiful moments captured that I can always look back on and reminence about, and experiences that will remain in my heart for years to come.
The day ended after a relaxing and rejuvenating time in the pool. We decided to head out to the city to find dinner. It was late at night now as we wandered through our neighborhood to find a good place to eat. After checking out a couple of places, we landed on a smaller restaurant that was selling local Spanish dishes. I ordered a burrito, and it was amazing. The ambiance was a 10/10 as well.
This day in Spain was one of my favorite days ever. As an adventurer at heart, being able to experience a day filled with so much fun, exploration, delicious food, chill time in the water, and late night walks in the city, was truly unforgettable. I will definitely be back in Granada, Spain to take in the stunning scenery and vibrant culture. I am also excited to discover new cities throughout Spain that might suprise me just as much.
